We are celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment which granted women the right to vote in the United States. Students in Oakland County are eligible to enter two different contests, which offer cash prizes!
Poetry Contest
Poetry held an important role in the movement movement for women’s suffrage: humor, inspiration, and persistence. In order to celebrate the literary contributions of the movement, we invite poetry submissions from students grades K-12 in Oakland County.
Who is eligible?
All K-12th grade students in Oakland County
When is the deadline?
Teachers submit student entries by March 20, 2020
How will submissions be judged?
- Creativity
- Poetic Skill
- Interpretation of the theme of “The 100th Anniversary of Women’s Suffrage.”
Prizes
One student in grades K-5, one in grades 6-8 and one in grades 9-12 will each win $300. The respective submitting teachers will also receive $200 to use in their classrooms.

PSA Contest
Create & submit a 30-second public service announcement designed to encourage people to”Get Out & Vote” on the 100th Anniversary of Women’s Suffrage and you could win $300!
Who is eligible?
All 6th-12th grade students in Oakland County
When is the deadline?
Students upload video to either YouTube or Vimeo. Students then complete the submission form by March 20, 2020 (the form includes a field for submitting the video link).
How will submissions be judged?
- Creativity
- Effectiveness of the “Get Out and Vote” message
- Technical production
- Interpretation of the theme of “The 100th Anniversary of Women’s Suffrage.”
Prizes
Grades 6-8: 1st Place: $300; 2nd Place $200
Grades 9-12: 1st Place: $300; 2nd Place $200
People’s Choice: $300
